This modern style Japanese Kokeshi doll possibly depicts Momotaro, or Peach Boy, who was said to have come to Earth in a giant peach. A very simple and very cute little figurine, the face is just visible between the two halves of the fruit.
Kokeshi dolls, which originate in Northern Japan, are handmade from wood, with a simple body, large head and only a few painted lines for a face. One characteristic of kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs. This doll is what is known as a Creative Kokeshi, as it is made in a modern rather than traditional style.
Signed on the underside.
Dimensions: Measures approximately 4.5" high.
Condition: Excellent used condition.
